Lydia & Michael's Summer Wedding

We're so excited to share photos of the special memories & details from Lydia & Mike's wedding at Bear Brook Valley {shot by Amy Rizzuto}!

Their Love Story

Lydia and Mike met freshman year of college at Rutgers but did not start dating until a week after graduation. After booking with Bear Brook Valley in 2018, and rebooking once during the pandemic, they tied the knot & celebrated their love in July of 2020. Their dog, lady, had helped with their proposal, and we loved seeing how they incorporated her into their special day!

Getting Ready Onsite

Lydia & Mike spent the full day of their wedding at Bear Brook. As Lydia and her girls got their hair & makeup done, drank champagne and got ready in the Silo Suite, Mike and the guys spent the morning in the Woodford Lounge and enjoyed the warm weather outside playing lawn games & golfing.

They shared a gorgeous and intimate first look outside on top of the hill across from the building.

The Wedding

The weather allowed for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony along the pond, where Peonies to Paintchips decorated the pergola archway beautifully. Our champagne wall made an appearance and welcomed guests onto the ceremony site. Though we had to space out the seating and make some setup adjustments to comply with the state's rules at the time, everyone's positive energy was so refreshing. The day was full of pure love.

"After months of not being able to see friends and family, having all of our loved ones with us to celebrate was the best part of the day" -Lydia

From IPA Mini Dog Shots to Crab Cakes, their custom cocktail hour menu was full of delicious bites. But since we live for the authentic touches, our favorite part was decorating the Slider Shack with Jets décor. This was Lydia & Mike's favorite station as well!

We asked Lydia & Mike to share any special memories they had from their wedding...

"Mike’s best friend returning from his Army deployment to officiate alongside Lydia’s college & study abroad roommate - two people that have seen the relationship since the beginning at Rutgers."

Lydia added...

"Brian Kirk & The Jirks keeping everyone dancing all night long!"

Late Night

We loved when Lydia & Mike booked our College Grease Truck Station, as it was inspired by the Rutgers RU Hungry Truck. They tied some unique little details of where they met & their college experience together; a sweet, authentic touch to finish off the night!

"The illustration of the tavern was done by one of my college roommates younger sisters (she’s so talented!) - it’s Old Queens Tavern... a Rutgers/New Brunswick staple and a bar we frequented A LOT in college. We still go a few times a year when we’re in the area." -Lydia

This station tied into their love story perfectly!

The Photos

The fabulous Amy Rizzuto captured the day beautifully. We love how she was able to capture all of the authentic details. Lydia & Mike wanted to capture the natural energy of their wedding in a way that was not overly posed. Amy did an absolutely spectacular job!

We asked Amy Rizzuto: What was your favorite shot?

"Lydia and Mike sitting at their sweetheart table right after their first dance. They looked so happy in this moment and it is one of my favorite moments from their beautiful day."

We asked: What were some of your favorite moments from their wedding?

"There were so many wonderful moments from Lydia and Mike’s wedding, but one of my favorites was when Lydia got to put on the wedding dress that had been hanging in their apartment for months and walk down the aisle with her dad! This resilient couple thought of everything and truly put on such an amazing celebration! From a stunning greenery covered champagne tower, custom cocktail napkins with their dog Lady, whimsical florals from Peonies to Paint Chips, a tailgate themed Jets station and a late night food station with a nod to their alma mater Rutgers, Lydia and Mike personalized the day so beautifully to them!"
"The flower girls and ring bearer were adorable! I loved the moment right after the flower girls walked down the aisle and dumped the remaining flower petals on their heads!"

We asked: Where is your favorite spot for photos here?

"I love capturing photos on top of the hill in front of Bear Brook Valley. The greens are lush and beautiful in the summer and create such a pretty and natural location for photos. I also love capturing photos in front of the silo and across the lake looking back at Bear Brook Valley. I feel like there are so many beautiful locations for photos here."

The Florals

Lydia wanted garden style florals that were whimsical and romantic, and Peonies to Paintchips delivered!

We asked: What flowers were used?

"Quicksand roses, white majolica spray roses, blush gardenia peonies, white ranunculus, blush clooney ranunculus, kiera garden rose, white cloud garden rose, white lisianthus, white stock, veronica, tibet roses, white o'hara garden roses."

Advice From the Bride

We asked Lydia & Mike to share any advice they have as newlyweds for future couples...

"Just when you think you have a back up plan for everything - a pandemic can strike! COVID taught us to appreciate the little things and at the end of the day we were just so grateful to have one another. Don’t sweat the small stuff and go with the flow. Prioritize what’s most important to you and laugh through the hiccups along the way."

Some more highlights...

Thank you Lydia & Michael for choosing Bear Brook Valley as your wedding venue! Our team wishes you a lifetime of love & happiness!
