Though every day is unpredictable working in the wedding industry, Christina is sharing with us her daily routine at home & work as a wedding coordinator at Bear Brook Valley!
A little about you...
Name: Christina Phillips
Company: Bear Brook Valley
Title: Wedding Coordinator
Years at Your Current Position: 2 years as a Coordinator (but almost 3 years with Bear Brook)
Number of Weddings Planned (if you know): 200+!
What is your typical day like?
I always like to start my day with some yoga to wake up. I think starting each day in a relaxed state, helps me find my footing no matter what fun obstacles each day throws at me. I am a self-proclaimed caffeine addict, so after my morning yoga I usually have a rather large helping of coffee. Now, Iced or Hot depends on the vibes of the morning... but I'll take what I can get! I will take a quick look through my e-mails on my phone while I sip my coffee, to make sure we don't have any work ~emergencies~, and then it's off to Bear Brook! As everyone knows, Bear Brook is located in such a gorgeous area of New Jersey, so I would say the scenery usually helps me clear my head in the morning.
At Bear Brook, I jump into e-mails, texts/calls, zooms, appointments, and above all - set up for the week of weddings ahead!
How do you assist couples throughout the planning process?
The biggest thing is communication. I like to be there to answer any questions that come up throughout the planning process & prompt couples when it's time for the milestones (tastings, details calls, etc).
Lots of questions come up during the planning process. For each couple, it is usually their first time planning a wedding. No questions are silly... your coordinator is there to answer each and every one! And to make sure you feel confident and ready for the big day.
How did you get started in the industry?
My bachelor's degree is in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing & Social Media Marketing. Before Bear Brook Valley, I worked at the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ. There, I worked in Marketing, but also in events! They host various types of events, including weddings at the Morris Museum. I learned very quickly that my favorite part of the job was in the event side, and quickly moved entirely out of marketing! I am a people person for sure, and love connecting with each person that I meet. I feel so at home coordinating at Bear Brook, and getting to do what I love to do, full time!
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my team at Bear Brook! Everyone is so passionate about delivering the best wedding day for every couple. Each team member brings a new idea and outlook to the table.
This job is never a one-man show. There are so many moving parts that go into it, and we are so proud of our team here!
How do you keep up with trends?
Social Media definitely keeps us in tune with the most recent wedding trends. I personally follow what feels like every wedding venue & vendor in New Jersey.. call me a stalker, but weddings are my passion!
It's so interesting to see what direction wedding trends move in. Most trends are usually short-lived, like everything else on social media, so it's important to stay on top of the trends before they disappear!
Aside from wedding coordinating, how do you spend your time?
Besides wedding coordinating and yoga, I spend a lot of time reading! You will most certainly find me on my deck, cold drink in my hand, reading in the warmer months. I like funny, light hearted books that make me laugh. I think it's so important to find hobbies in life that keep you smiling. I try not to take my life too seriously - lol. And anyone that knows me personally, will tell you the same thing. I love attempting and.. sometimes failing new recipes. My husband and I love to cook together. He, however, is also in the event industry, so finding time to do that together can be tricky at times. This industry can definitely be a lot to take in at times, so it is so important to have fun and creative outlets outside of work! I truly do love my life, and my career. If anyone is considering event planning, I would definitely recommend it!
